Do you know, however, that education will play a significant role in helping you achieve your life goals? School provides us with an atmosphere in which we can master a variety of fundamental skills. Preschools begin teaching children as young as three years old how to read and write. They begin to learn the alphabet, numbers, and even some quadratic equations. They can also work on their drawing, construction, problem-solving, and thinking abilities. There is an amount of experience and intelligence in the universe. We learn a variety of subjects in school, including literature, chemistry, the media, fiction, mathematics, physics, music lessons, sociology, and many others. This should help us appreciate our forefathers' hard work, the hardships of people centuries ago, all the wars and battles that formed our nation, the beauty and complexity of science and technology, and so on.

ABOUT ROORKEE

Roorkee (Rk) is a city in northern India and the seat of the Haridwar Municipal Corporation in the Uttarakhand (formerly Uttaranchal) state. It is located on a level plateau beneath the Himalayan Shivalik Hills. The city is built along the banks of the Ganges Canal, which runs from north to south through the heart of the city. The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, formerly known as Thomson College of Civil Engineering, is Asia's first engineering college. The Roorkee Cantonment, one of the country's oldest military establishments and the head offices of the Bengal Engineer Group since 1853, is also located in Roorkee. On the 22nd of December 1851, Roorkee (together with Piran Kaliyar) was one of the endpoints of India's first train excursion. Before 1840, the city was a small hamlet on the banks of the Solani rivulet, consisting of mud cottages. The Upper Ganges Canal was formally started in April 1842, under the supervision of British commander Proby Cautley. Thomas Login, an engineer, developed and oversaw the local work. Roorkee grew into a town throughout time. The canal, which was officially opened on April 8, 1854, supplied irrigation water to over 767,000 acres (3,100 km2) and 5,000 communities.

Col. P.T. Cautley, a British Army commander, was essential in the canal's construction. The canal, which is still regarded as a wonder of engineering, was created in 1853, according to the Department of Hydrology. On April 8, 1854, however, water was allowed into the canal. The Canal Workshop and Iron Foundry, which is today known as the Irrigation Workshop, was founded in 1843 on the civil lines on the canal side to look after the canal's maintenance. The foundation of the Civil Engineering School followed, with classes beginning in 1845 to train local students to aid in the civil-engineering development of the Upper Ganges Canal. This was to be the country's first engineering college. Roorkee was the first town in Uttar Pradesh to obtain hydroelectric power in 1920. The first aqueduct in India was built in Roorkee, over the Solani river, as part of the Ganges Canal project, which was India's first irrigation project in North India, begun by the British.
