ABOUT HARIDWAR

Haridwar lies in the west region of the state of Uttarakhand with an area of approximately 2360 square kilometers. Found at a height of about 259 meters from the mean sea level, the city lies on 29.58° North latitude and 78.13° East longitude. The district was a part of Saharanpur until 1988 when it was declared as a separate district. The city has Dehradun lying on its east and north side, Saharanpur on the west side, Bijnor in the south, and Pauri Garhwal in the east. The city has a surplus of water resources due to the river Ganga finding its path through it. This means that Haridwar has plenty of agricultural resources.

The Gateway to Gods has many names including Gangadwar, Kapila, and Mayapuri. It is the starting point of Char Dham, that is, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri. The Maha Kumbh Mela is one the most awaited events which occurs in four places in India every 12 years and Haridwar is one of them. ‘Ardh Mela’ also occurs after a rotation period of six years. It is one of the oldest cities of India and you can find pieces of it in literature from the time of Buddha to when the British rule came to exist in the country. There are many ashrams and it is one of the centers of herbal and ayurvedic medicines. Some schools in Haridwar still follow the traditional Indian education system of Gurukul. This city welcomes tourists all around the year.

The water of river Ganga is clear like crystals as it is one of the first plain areas it runs through. The Rajaji National Park is about ten kilometers away from the city where thousands of wildlife enthusiasts come and visit every year. The ghats of the city are astonishingly beautiful during the evenings when the aarti takes place and thousands of marigold flowers and diyas float above the water. It is one of the main attractions of the city and no tourist skips it.
