Boys School in Chennai

A brief History about Schools

Introduction to Schools and Single-sex education

Single-sex education is a foreign concept as in India we were to have gurukuls for both boys and girls where the education was not just about armors and scriptures. It was a complete educational journey of 8-10 years away from home. While in Western Europe, it was very popular as female education was mostly conveyed through private tutoring to the girls at home. Therefore the schools were supposed to have just boys. Then changes occurred in the schooling tradition from the 17-18 century when Catholic Schools for girls began to start, which were managed by nuns. Similarly, in the USA, feminists succeeded in their protest and established women's education institutions.

Transferring from Single-Sex Education to Co-education

Like earlier, education was a symbol of prestige, and only rich people could afford education for their children, but later the importance of education was realized. During the 19th century, education became part of the laws and was defined as a right. This brought rise to mass primary education, and along with it, co-education got into fame. This was how co-education popularized from Europe and America to several different parts of the world. Today co-education is much more popular than single-sex education, which is why we find more co-ed schools all around than boys-specific or girls-specific schools. Along with it, the other reason why co-education was promoted was that single-sex education was promoting sexism, and many arguments were raised about the lack of interpersonal skills between the two genders.

About Chennai Education

South India has always maintained a better literacy score as compared to the other parts of the world. There are a lot of reasons for such a good literacy rate. In Southern India, the government is more focused on the development terms in all fields of education, technology, researches, etc. Therefore most of the topmost educational institutes are located in the southern part of the country, for example, multiple IIT campuses, DRDO research institute, ISRO headquarters and research institute, Anna Library, etc. The region is also the birthplace of several technology firms and companies and startups; also, there are several other sector industries and hubs providing opportunities to talented individuals from all around the country. The other reason for the literacy rate is the people. The people play a more vital role in developments and progress than the government. The people of South India are humble, respectful, and very down-to-earth. They are close to their traditions, culture, and ancestral heritage. The lifestyle of a millionaire there is as simple as that of a small-scale farmer. They wear their traditional clothes, eat their staple food, and live a very traditional life. If we try to flip the pages of the history of southern India, we can find the reason behind their simple living philosophies. The region has the least contact with the invaders, and that might be due to being surrounded by three major oceans by the three sides. This further resulted in a lack of cultural exchange and its evolution which is why the south culture can be found in its purest forms. Also, it is seen that the states in the south are smaller than compared to that of the North and the West.
