Education

The city has a number of ICSE schools that offer quality education to children along with sports, arts and other co-curricular activities. Some of these schools also have international exposure opportunities for students such as exchange programs with other countries or exposure trips abroad.

The ICSE curriculum was developed to provide an internationally benchmarked curriculum for students aged between 12 and 16 years old. The ICSE board examinations are held at the end of Class 10.

The ICSE syllabus is designed to be flexible so that it can accommodate the needs of different students. The content and emphasis on various subjects vary from school to school but some essential concepts are taught to all students in all schools:

English - Communication skills; reading comprehension; grammar; vocabulary; writing skills; speaking skills; spelling and punctuation; usage and style; essay writing; comprehension exercises in prose and poetry; literary appreciation.

Hindi - Reading skills through stories, poems, plays, essays, etc.; grammar; vocabulary building including synonyms and antonyms; composition exercises on monosyllables only or sentence building with a small range of words only such as dialogue, narration, etc.; comprehension exercises based on simple text passages

The curriculum followed in these schools is designed by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). The ICSE Schools in Mumbai follow their own coursebooks and set their own examination schedules.
